3rd Year BDC Student Receives LSO Scholarship

This week, we’re celebrating the achievement of 3rd year BDC Student Emily Panousis in receiving a Life Sciences Ontario Scholarship in September 2019! The LSO scholarship is awarded to 2nd and 3rd year students in Ontario, and is designed to increase employers’ and new grads’ awareness of Life Science as a growing sector and contributor to the local economy.
Scholarship winners are paired with a mentor in the life sciences sector, and Emily describes her experience positively. “I have been fortunate enough to be paired up with the Head of Government Affairs and Market Access at GlaxoSmithKline,” with whom she’s virtually chatted with about her objectives in the field. “Last week she offered to give me a tour of the GSK Headquarters in Mississauga, and to meet in person to discuss our [mentor-mentee] relationship more”. With the help of her mentor, she’s been able to navigate her interests in the pharmaceutical industry.
Emily also mentions that she’s worked closely with LSO members. She has a mentor there who she says, “has been incredibly supportive of me by inviting me to various networking events and introducing me to some of his colleagues in the industry”.
It is exciting to see the support and investment that industry partners are providing for young students. Congratulations Emily on receiving this award, as well as taking the awesome opportunities that come with it!
