4th-Year BDC Student Divya Tamilselvan at MedHacks 2019

This week we’re featuring a 4th year BDC student, Divya Tamilselvan (2nd from right), who attended the MedHacks hackathon at Johns Hopkins University from September 27th-29th, 2019.
MedHacks is a multi-day event promoting the application of technological solutions to medical issues. For the hackathon, small groups comprised of students, biomedical engineers, doctors and more, work to identify disparities in medicine, and then propose solutions of by creating a functioning software or hardware within 36 hours.
At the hackathon, Divya describes, “I worked with a team of 5 individuals which consisted of MPH, MD, and neuroscience students to figure out a way to connect people experiencing visual impairment. For those with visual impairment, people with normal vision cannot offer valuable insight on how to do daily tasks and solve their problems”.
To address this, she explains, “we created an iOS app called YesEyeCan for visually impaired people to match and connect with other visually impaired people experiencing similar symptoms, and have similar backgrounds/geographical location as them. I worked on creating the interface of the iOS app using Xcode as well as the business model of our product!”
We’d like to celebrate the awesome opportunities that our BDC students are taking to further their learning and engagement in the health sciences. Go Divya!
